Comments:

I didn't move. Because of the 911 service, the post office had to give us street and numbers instead of just P.O. box numbers.

We have been married for 44 years, 7 months, 17 days as of today.

Yeah, I had to count!

We have four children and eight grandchildren. Our oldest grandchild will be a senior in college next year, next one graduated from high school this year and the youngest is 14 months old. So, we have had children around most of our married life. Gr ndchildren are more fun and you can send them home when you have had enough.

We have lived in the McLoud area for 25 years. We are both retired from Tinker AF Base. Retirement is exhausting, at least for Ernie. He is busier than ever. I have learned to say "no" quite effectively. Mostly, I read and play solitare on the com uter.

The computer stays busy most of the time. Ernie e-mails quite a bit to friends and our family. We have children in El Reno and some in Poteau and a couple in this area. None are too far away so we see them quite often. Our lives mostly revolve arou d our family and extended families.

As a rule, I don't hang around old folks too often but I am willing to make an exception this July.

See you then.

The Closest Thing We Could Find To a Yugo!

Comments:

Very glad to see Martha G. checked in. Martha sounds as if she likes many things, and she is probably an expert in all of them.

Two of the three things I remember from Williamson's Biology class was Jerry Johnson's cat skeleton project and Martha 'giving' blood after either I fainted or no blood in me could be found.

Later, Biology of the Seashore (field trips and final) was my favorite course.

If Martha had invested in land in Mesquite, she could be abundantly wealthy now, as that Dallas suburb has expanded exponentially.

Never worked there, spending my time in Richardson, downtown and Galleria II (office area only). Her feisty response to being old and mean was cute, but the story of the one-man reunion left me wondering again. How could he reunion himself? Good stor Martha.

My wife Maria's encounter with being 'old' came from a young girl.

Maria was doing some fake grandmother business with three young girls. Somehow, the subject of age came up and Maria asked them: "How old do you think I am?"

The most mature of the three thought for a while and answered: "More than 90!"

My first real notice of Rhoda was in 9th grade English. After my book report she made some comments about my grammar and had to say it several times in different ways before I realized it was not the story she was referencing but my poor use of words.

I really don't think Rhoda is scamming us with her woeful tales of previously aged computer and now just the car, but it does seem as if she has something good for her going on.

My own experience with cars allows me to be fully sympathetic with Rhoda.

Young, single and under 25, I sold my car when learning of auto insurance costs in Boston, and because there was a good TA. Well, the MTA went on strike and it was the coldest and snowiest February in history. I was somewhat of a dreamer, always wanti g a foreign made car. Finally, the dream came true - I bought a used Yugo; however, it's jerking, stalling, and general balkiness has spoiled my dream and not helped my marriage (the Yugo story is ongoing fantasy with my wife).

My memories of clandestine swimming behavior and its observance was limited to respected male class members at the municipal swimming pool early in the morning. As the court well knows, it is easier to find witnesses who did not see the alleged behavio than did see it.

Carolyn went to Rhoda's aid and was bestruck and restruck by Murphy or Sumpthin but Rhoda could easily fend for herself. The editor coldly repeated the versions she clearly wanted excerpted.

I might warn the good editor the pin is mightier than the sword and also caution him against crafty women gang attacks. I have suffered several of those myself.

After reading a cogent and compelling story, (Bill Brown's return to life) I had a complete physical. Some of my subsystems need rework or attention.

Read Jim Schweizerhof's account of having a full time vacation as a job, and am I envious. Could not find the web site with the address he provided.

The correct address is: http://spibeachhouses.com/

To Avis Om www.msn.com searching for URL and definition gives:

This page defines 'URL' (Uniform Resource Locator), a character string that identifies an Internet access application, a specific computer on the Internet, and a specific file on that computer. (URL is a website identifier)

Enjoy all the letters Jack Warner's and Lorene Seckel Akins were worth reading. The editor keeps amazing me with his resourcefulness.

This will be an impressionistic dash across cyberspace. My continuing push for the last ten years is to build my rent collections to the point of independence so that I can devote the remainder of my good years to all kinds of artwork and the pursuit of k owledge.

My life has been rich, full, and extremely interesting. Some 40 year old stranger commented on my abruptness the other day by saying "How can you be so old and so mean?" "Old!" I thought. I replied to the guy looking him straight in the eye. "You'll b lucky to be as old as I am!" The guy dropped his eyes and left the gas station without looking back.

I do have many friends. No husband or children or grandchildren. I have a large extended family and a cat and a dog. I love Celtic music and art; environmental issues and all types of archaeology and anthropology as well all aspects of real est te; games, gardening, classical music and Sixties music, and of course all aspects of artand becoming acquainted with people in their incredible variety. ( Doing portraits affords me the leisure of really seeing them. I am known for painting good likeness s. )

There is a 90% probabililty that I will attend the whole reunion and I do look forward to seeing everyone who can make it!

The letters are great and I do hope the website continues indefinitely!

My 80 year old friend, J said that he attended his Shawnee High School reunion and that he was the only one there! Yike! I hope that there will be others of us there at 80 years of age including me!

Thanks for your forbearance.

Hi! Just ran through the web site and send my thanks and congratulations to our webmaster!

Frank and I both retired as of February 1, 2000 (Frank as Director of Career Services at Louisiana State University and me as Assistant Dean and Director of Engineering Services in the College of Engineering at LSU).

We love our new non-schedule, having been relieved of the frantic-ness of our lives!! We've joined a health club (boy, do I need it!) and are trying to get organized to do not much, while enjoying catching up on casual reading and doing some traveling as well.

teen

We aren't going to be able to come to the reunion (frowny faces), but do want a copy of the photo and directory (forms and funds on the way).

Both our daughters are moving and we find our services are needed.

Our oldest daughter, Cathy, and her family (husband Paul, Emily - 4, and Nicholas - 6 mos.)are moving from Greenville, Alabama, to Bella Vista, Arkansas where Paul will work for Cooper Industries as CPA.

Our youngest daughter, Karla (unmarried - any available sons??) will be moving from Wilmington, N.C. to Mt. Vernon, Iowa to be Associate Dean of Students at Cornell College and plans to work on her Ph.D. at the Univ. of Iowa while there.

We're excited for them, but it will mean more traveling for us.

I will really miss seeing everyone!! Hope you have a great time; I'll be thinking about you!

Watch Out Ziegler - Here She Comes!

Comments:

What a sorry outfit Colt must be! It was a girl from the class of 54. I repeat class of 54.

Someone has slandered my friend Rhoda. She would never have done anything like that. Remember she was a "little lovely".

Besides her mother would have killed her.

The class of 55 girls were blocks away at Sue Ann's house, carefully chaparoned. I repeat it was an older woman. Still a good story though. Investigate further or wait untill the reunion. Don"t know who peeped over the wall. That part may be true

You will have to research more or wait till I reveal all at the reunion.

Ann Deem is planning to be in town during our reunion maybe she can shed some light on the peepers.

Little Lovely

Comments:

I'm suddenly staring at my NEW computer screen in utter astonishment!!!

The e-mailer, Coltbond, has announced that I, a little lovely, was the infamous girl in the inner tube.

For this detective work, Colt was paid a "damn small fee." This is good to hear because I contend his information is entir ly fictitious, more fictional than anything I've ever written in my wildest imaginings.

Think about the logic here.

First, my mom chaparoned every party I ever attended. And more significant, if indeed I was the peep-ee, then the peep-ors would have found the sight so incredibly boring that the event would never have gained such notoriety.

On the other hand, considering the crashingly dull highschool experiences of Albert, Steve, and Don, perhaps the inner tube sighting could naturally be the highlight of their school career.

Oh, yes - I'm on the trail of "Colt."

Be advised.

The reason I didn't write more the first time was because I was trying to avoid "blah." That didn't work.

I've been living in Louisville for 37 years. Married, three children (two daughers, one son), no grandchildren. Louisville is a nice place to live. Sort of a large small town. I didn't work when my children were growing up but did a lot of volunte r work at the Women's Center and for one of our Senators. All in all, I can't complain.

Memories: Teen Town, Tri-H-Y and afterwards, movie dates the the Hornbeck, Van's, good friends.

I still have vivid memories of some of our teachers: Alta Mae Greene ( Jefferson and Jr. High ), Delilah Nelson, Miss Korb, Mrs. Malahay ( she could translate our class motto - she probably wrote it). And, of course, Mr. Blantner and Josie.

Yes, I remember Bob, Willa Dean, Carol and Win's excellent adventure. And, no, I'm not going to explain it. And don't bother to ask Don Nelson. He wasn't there!

Maybe Bob will come to the reunion and enlighten everyone.

I've been looking for one of Rhoda's books now that we know her nom de plume. No luck yet.

I just got this E-mail address for this very special occasion.

Somebody send me something.

Looking forward to seeing everybody in July.

I don't know who was peeping over the wall. I thought it might be some of you guys.

I noticed that we have not heard from Don since he left for Wal-Mart to buy Viagra. It must have worked!

Glad Krista got her new computer. Hope the keys don't melt when she tries to expunge her reputation as a "little lovely"

I decided my first letter was BORING, so I thought I'd try again. Looking back, I think we could not have had a better environment for growing up. We had families surrounding us with love and support (for the most part), we had schools where we felt afe, in spite of atom bomb drills (remember those?), we had Bill Brokaw to keep the basketball games from erupting into riots when the sailors came over from Norman, and we had teachers who cared. I thought it might be fun to submit a "remember when" not .

Can you remember Senorita Trinkle, and the day Don Nelson and D. B. Burton shoved John Morris in the coat closet while she was outside before class? A. Willard came in just then with a foreign visitor and stood against the coat closet during most of t e class session. When Senorita Trinkle escorted them out of the room, we let John out of the closet - he has passed out - lucky we didn't kill him.

Remember Ronny Cole and Dickie Claiborne putting on a Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis type talent show?

Remember Carrie Hill reading "A Tale of Two Cities" and crying at the sad parts? Today I'd probably cry, too.

Remember the hi-fi (not stereo yet) playing Les Paul and Mary Ford "How High the Moon" in the cafeteria at lunch time? And those BIG peanut butter cookies and gingerbread with lemon sauce served at lunch time.

Remember the "Coffeepot" cafe on East Main? You could buy a bowl of soup for 15 cents and have a dime leftover to buy chocolate covered peanuts at Kress, and still get back to school in time for Bill Blatner's history class.

Remember Paul Boone playing the violin - I can't remember the song, but I remember the night.

Remember "Noonday" (I think that's what it was called) with Ann English - a devotional time held once at week at lunchtime.

How about the coke machine down at the end of the hall where more than one romance began (or ended) during lunch hour.

How cold it was trying to walk downtown, eat and get back with a north wind blowing about seventy eleven miles an hour, and how a brownie from the bakery across from the Hornbeck would warm you up on the way.

recordplayer

Looking back, I think my parents' move out to the Lake when I was fourteen really slowed me down. Without transportation, I didn't make the Teentown scene much - and when John came along, he prefered the Starlight or Tecumseh drive-in to Teentown (by hat time he was a sophisticated college man, too "old for that stuff." I see that family was a really large part of my social life during those years, but the friendships made and renewed during each subsequent reunion have been rich. John and I seldom iss a reunion, and we're both looking forward to this one.

Thanks to the reunion committee for all the hard work they've been doing.

Just Too Much To Ponder!

How can anyone compete with the mysterious unknown such as Don Nelson's acclaimed but unrevealed masterpiece. Perhaps the editor is shielding us from scandalous revelations, or even protecting Class Reunion 55 website from an adult categorization. Th re are other idle speculations available.

Win Dawson's letter timidly heralded towns with image provoking names that have their origins as flowing water havens. His letter certainly brought memories back to me. I had fished and toured the scenic Rock River and visited close by wooded areas nd Indian monuments while I spent someone's vacation time in Rockford Il.

Keep up the good words coming, Win, but maybe embellish them some, but be prepared to share the BLAH award with me.

I have not seen any of Rhoda's historic romance novels, but I am keeping a better eye open. What name should I check for as the author? If it is not Grady, save me some time, please. I saw also mention again of Rhoda in Carolyn's letter. It had som thing to do with Needless Markup or some fancy store.

For someone living in Shawnee, maybe they see Shawnee often enough, but more than maybe most grads would like to see Doris Ann davenport Smalley. Let her know.

Shirley's list of games is too hyperactive for me, and there are a couple of them I haven't played more than once or twice. I am interested in lists however, perhaps a Hall of Shame or Fame or something identifying the status of all the 55 grads. Perh ps recognition of unusual accomplishment, achievement or disaster participation I haven't worked out the details , but I would like to see a history trail, if such could be put together.

Since my first letter, I have started a web site; the pictures on it are not as nice as Shirley's are but are definitely different and more will come. I swear I did not know what URL or html stood for so don't quiz me, and learned everything I know ab ut it from the nice job Joe has done. He evens updates pictures and makes fresh changes.

I am really enjoying reading all the "interesting" letters. Some of you haven't changed a bit.

Actually I have been looking at my Caldrons recently. About two months ago my son called and told me that his wife's best friends step-father had gone to high school with me.

My first thought was who is he and what does he know? He couldn't know about the beer cans picked up on 18 and hidden in the bushes at the girls dorm at OBU.

He couldn't know about Marinell's bubble bath in an unnamed fountain. He couldn't know about some of us [ Sue Ann and Katherine S. ] trying our hand at borrowing watermelons.

Incidentally, the guy turned out to be Gary Bryant [class of 56] who is a stockbroker [I think] in Palm Sp ings, Ca. and he also told my son that I was a very nice girl.

ha.

After graduating I broke ranks with the prevailing trend and headed to A&M with Virginia Hampton, Barbara Jo Lee and Ann Dee , [class of 54] who had gone to Monticello her freshman year.

After four great years armed with a degree in Fashion Merchandising, I teamed up with Rhoda Grady [the famous author] and we headed to Dallas to Work at Neiman Marcus. There we had many adventures!

There I met my long-suffering husband. He promtly carried me off to the Air Force. We were first in Washington state then in Germany for a year and a half. After the A.F. we returned to Dallas. We have two sons and three grandchildren.

I have done P.T.A., Cub scouts, Little League etc. ever since.

We have had lots of interesting trips connected with Bobs job. He is an engineer in telecommunications [poor soul went to O.U.] However he really is nice guy. He also graduated from high in 55 in Shawnee, but he was one of those St. Gregory boys our mothers warned us about.

My fingers are tired.

For My Good Friend, Rhoda!

Comments:

Okay - I have missed How to Be A Millionaire while searching for Don Nelson's now infamous letter. Then I see a notice that we have to wait till July 21st. That's blackmail. I protest.

But I do appreciate all those coins going into my piggy bank for m new computer. You can just send a cashier's check to my listed address.

Be sure Mary doesn't mix up my money with the reunion funds (or her retirement fund.)

Comments:

I certainly want to hear more from Don Nelson.

I didn't know of many of things he mentioned in his message, but then I wasn't aware of a lot of things going on around me.

Always kept my nose clean and didn't associate much with the "in" crowd. But now I'm certainly old enough to know the scor and still like those old friends and acquaintances.

Someone please tell me more.

Donna

EDITOR'S NOTE: - MR Nelson has reserved all copyrights to his fictional work - including paper back, reprint, serial rights, and all world rights, and movie rights!

He has threatened to pull out the big guns - to wit: Sid Clarke and George McKinnis, if we reprint it without his express written permission; and payment of huge royalt es ( which would cause us to have to charge up to $1,000.00 for the reunion ).

Rhoda Will understand!

Your editor is just a small town lawyer, and can't take on those guys.

We are still negotiating, and when we receive permission we will reprint this literary masterpiece.

Boo! Award

Comments:

How can I read everybody's message? I can't even read my own. It's been censored!

These aren't single word memory joggers but they were real to me. STARLITE DRIVE IN, HERB'S (HOT BEEF), SATURDAY MORNING TALENT SHOW, HORNBECK, SOAP BOX DERBY,THE CITY BUS LINE, SHAWNEE LAKE, BLACKIE,(BLACKIE ROBSON, THE MOTORCYCLE CYCLE DAREDEVIL CO ),WATER BALOONS, POOP IN A SACK ON FRIDAY'S FRONT PORCH, "FOUR EYES"( The cop that lost his trimotorcycle when Win, Don, and Bob took it down the alley for two blocks.), BROADWAY WOODS.

BOB, WIN ,CAROL & WILLA DEAN GOING TO JAIL?

Some of the above will not qualify for memory words, but they did happen, and there is much more.

Don

AWARDS & PRIZES

From time to time your Reunion Committee may determine that a message received from a classmate deserves Special Recognition by a Special Award.

Awards may be given in categories not yet determined, based on reasons as yet undetermined, and for any logical or illogical reason.

In Judging the messages deserving of special honor your Committee may consider spelling, grammar, content, lack of content, clarity, originality, believability, readability, puffability, wind direction and high tides.

Aniticipated Awards may or may not include one for BLAH, based solely on content - or lack thereof; A Get a Life award, and the coveted Patty award for creativity.

More than one award may be awarded to any entrant.

You may nominate your own message, or any other message for a specific award, but the decision of the Reunion Committee as to the awards given is final and unappealable, except upon threat of death or dismemberment.

Members of the Committee, their family or pets, are not eligible for any Award, and you should not waste time nominating them.
